I’ve been a writer my whole life.

In my 20s, I wrote commercials. I won a Clio, a Gold Lion, and a few more awards. Then my first play, THE SMELL OF THE KILL was produced on Broadway and took off around the world. I wrote it as a drama, but it turned out to be a comedy. There’s got to be a lesson in that, probably about life. You tell me! I’ve written nearly a dozen plays. They’re about love or loss. Or both. What else is there? Maybe food.  I’m the only playwright to have two plays named finalists for the Steinberg/ATCA New Play Award in one season. I won the Francesca Primus Prize and two Edgerton New Play awards, and was a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.

For the last several years, I’ve coached playwrights, screenwriters, authors, and rabbis. During the last high holiday season, I worked on 27 sermons. Amen. There are notes in my NOTES app that are fragments of ideas for new work.  New plays, new musicals, new television shows, new fictional podcasts. So, there is more to come. There is always more to come.

The Rabbi Whisperer: A Playwright Helps Sermon Writers Find Their Voice

The New York Times Profile

I had an amazing time speaking with New York Times reporter Sarah Maslin Nir. Many thanks to her and all the amazing rabbis who spoke with her, too. Shana Tovah everybody! What a way to start the New Year!

How do you start over after everything you know has been erased? MOSES is a one man show about faith, love, and going it alone.

“...a rewardingly unpredictable one-person play about grief and faith... Moses touches on profound issues: self-forgiveness, the human-divine relationship and whether pain is better than emotional numbness.” - Washington Post
